Enjoy a luxury trip of the Nile Valley from Cairo to Alexandria, Luxor, and Aswan, seeing the treasures of ancient and modern Egypt. Begin in Cairo with a visit to the Great Pyramids before continuing south for 5 days on a Dahabiya Nile cruise, resting and soaking in the wonders of ancient Egypt. Then, return to Cairo to view the Egyptian Museum, Old Cairo, Saladin’s Citadel, and many other beautiful sites and attractions.
Arrive at Cairo International Airport. Our meet-and-assist service will take you from right outside your gate to the passport check area, where we will assist you with luggage claims and customs. They will then escort you to your accommodation from the airport.
Take an early morning flight to Luxor. Visit the Karnak Temple, the biggest religious structure ever created for a deity. The temple is devoted to Amon Ra, Ancient Egypt’s primary creation god. During your visit to the Karnak temple, you will get exclusive access to the Opet festival temple and the majestic temple of Khonso, two hidden jewels that few tourists explore. After lunch, visit the Luxor Temple, which was primarily built by Pharaoh Ramses II. Check into your accommodation and relax for the evening. (B & L)
Check out and begin the day by exploring the Valley of the Kings, which is concealed behind the mountains on the Nile’s west bank. Enter King Tutankhamun’s tomb and meet face to face with his Mummy. Your trip will also offer access to Ramses VI’s tomb, one of the most colorful in the King’s Valley. Visit the temple of Hatshepsut, Egypt’s first female Pharaoh who clothed and reigned as a king. Make a picture stop at Memnon’s massive colossi. Drive to Esna to check-in for your own Nile sailing boat; upon arrival, start sail for the night. (B, L, D)
After breakfast, cruise to El Kab to view the governor’s tombs of the old city, then sail up the Nile to Edfu to see the most preserved temple from the ancient world, the Temple of Horus. Set sail up the Nile again and have a barbeque meal on the riverbank. (B, L, D)
Breakfast while sailing to el Ramadi, an ancient Nile fishing hamlet. Stop there and wander about the hamlet away from the throng to learn more about the local culture. Sail to Jabal el Selesla, a one-of-a-kind location where all of Egypt’s sandstone was mined. Visit the 3200-year-old Hormoheb Chapel. Set sail towards Kom Ombo. (B,L,D)
After breakfast, proceed to the Kom Ombo Temple, which is devoted to the gods of the crocodile and the falcon. Visit the Crocodile Mummification Museum to witness thousands of year old crocodile mummies. Set sail once more to Aswan, and upon arrival, visit the island of Philae and the temple of Isis, the Egyptian goddess of love and desire (B, L, D)
After breakfast on-board, Disembark your Nile Dahabiya and fly back to Cairo, have a day at leisure to enjoy the facilities of your hotel. (B)
Begin your day by seeing Saqqara, Memphis’ necropolis and site of the Step Pyramid, the world’s earliest limestone building. Investigate its 4350-year-old colorful tombs. Explore the ancient Hieroglyphics carved on the walls of the pyramid thousands of years ago. Your trip will feature a rare entrance to one of Saqqara’s freshly found tombs. Lunch at a local restaurant, followed by an exploration of Egypt’s ancient capital city, Memphis. Visit the Bent and Red Pyramids of Dahshur in the middle of nowhere to get a sense of how all of Egypt’s pyramids used to appear. (B & L)
Explore the Giza Pyramids, the only surviving wonder of the Seven Wonders of the World, after breakfast. Out in the desert, ride a camel and stand in front of the towering Sphinx, a hybrid of human wisdom and lion might. Lunch will be served with a view of the Giza Plateau. On your way back to the hotel, take a Felucca ride with sparkling champagne to see the city from the river as the sunsets.
Visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, which houses the world’s largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, with over 120,000 objects on display. You will come face to face with King Tutankhamun’s Mask. After lunch, you’ll visit Ibn Tulun Mosque, Cairo’s oldest and largest mosque, which is still standing in its original form. Climbing atop the minaret, which offers a panoramic perspective of old Islamic Cairo, is an option. Finish the day with a stroll through ancient Islamic Cairo; visit El Muizz Street, which has the highest concentration of medieval architectural masterpieces in the Islamic world; and explore the twisting passageways of the famed Khan El Khalili market, the district’s main souk.
